Description

On a clean Joomla 4.0.5 on PHP 8 the following is output during installation.

JInstaller: :Install: Can't find XML setup file.
Invalid use of NULL value
Package Install: There was an error installing an extension: com_comprofiler.zip

Upgrade installs don't appear to be blocked as long as they don't get a "Invalid use of NULL value" error.

Unsure what caused this, but created a new Joomla 4 install and it worked fine there. Needs further investigation as to what is triggering this.

Never could find the cause. It's possible this was a bug in Joomla itself that has long been fixed.
